Up until recently, most of us pictured human/ghost love as an uncomfortable pottery-making session and a permanently ingrained image of Patrick Swayze’s perfect 90’s hair. In December of 2017, a real-life lover of the spiritual world stepped forward to tell her love story to ITV’S This Morning Show in the UK. Amethyst Realm, 30, claimed to be engaged to her ghost fiance after a nine-month whirlwind romance. In this interview, Realm also revealed plenty of other juicy details from her little black book of phantom sweethearts.
Bring out the popcorn and your healthy skepticism! This story gets VERY weird VERY quickly.
When You’ve Got It, Haunt It
Amethyst grew tired of her repetitively “boring” relationships with human men about ten years ago. After being cheated on and lied to by previous lovers, a midnight romp with a spiritual being completely changed Realm’s perspective on future romantic endeavors.
It wasn’t until her fiance caught her mid-coitus with this ghost and smartly exited the relationship that she strictly began courting those from the other side. Since then, over 20 spirits have crossed Realm’s path — and one of them stole her heart.
If you’re wondering what these sexual encounters entail, you are not alone.
Realm cleared up any and all curiosities in her interview, stating bluntly, “Ghost lovers tend to be more sensual and adept than the average bloke. There’s always more of a connection because the sex goes beyond physical. It’s like any other kind of sex. The main difference is I just can’t see them.”
Since that time of exploration in Realm’s life, she experienced a larger-than-life phenomenon. A weekend spree in Australia with a ghost partner started just like any other fling. But this time, it ended differently. She fell in love.
Building A Ghost Family
Realm spoke joyfully of the process of falling in love with her now-fiance. In an interview with The New York Post, she stated: “I’d not had a phantom fling for a while and as I was away on business, starting a new relationship was the last thing on my mind,” the Bristol-based spiritual counselor told The Sun. “Then one day, while I was walking through the bush, enjoying nature, I suddenly felt this incredible energy. A new lover had arrived.”
Arrived he had. And he stayed with Realm, all the way back to the UK. A daily routine began, and the ghost-love only grew.
After nine months together, they decided to start planning to seal the deal. The two even discussed starting a family, although exactly how that would work is currently unknown. Realm’s family is reported as being supportive, and they plan on attending the future Pagan ceremony.
So, What Is Spectrophilia?
There is a word for this type of attraction: spectrophilia. The basic definition is an attraction to ghosts. And Realm is not alone. Other people have reported having sexual encounters of the fourth kind. Women like Sian Jameson and Amanda Teague have shared their rendezvous, and each will bring you further down spectrophiliac rabbit holes.
Psychiatrists and psychologists tend to believe that these experiences are of the hallucinogenic kind, which is why they can seem extremely life-like. Whatever the case, we just hope a video of the wedding surfaces soon.
